How do we know? Looking at illustrations with Kindy

In Kindergarten Lanugage Links, we have been reading Uncle David by Libby Gleeson. We know that Uncle David is big – but today we explored how we know he is big. To do this we identified some simple aspects of visual literacy, such as how we are looking ‘up’ at Uncle David in some of the pictures, and how he is shown compared to other things such as his bed, the children and a tree.

Below are some of our answers to the question How do we know Uncle David is big?

We know he is big because…

"I know because he touched the ceiling." - William

"I know Uncle David is big because him (sic) bed is big." - Fatima

"I know because he got all ten (children)." - Bilal
